Resting Celestial Body
Resting Celestial Body
This painting depicts a woman sleeping, cradled by the cosmos, surrounded by constellations. Her blanket dissolves into a tapestry of nebulas and newborn stars, a gentle reminder of the universe’s quiet yet ceaseless creation.
I worked on this piece over two years of adventures around the world, and it became a reflection of what I learned along the way: the importance of stillness. Hidden among the stars is a special constellation I named Felipe’s Tail in honor of my cat. When he disappeared earlier this year, I renamed Orion’s Belt as a tribute to his ever-present spirit, accompanying me even in my dreams.
This painting is about grief and presence, the tender care of life, and the extraordinary movement found in stillness. Every night, when I close my eyes, I discover new worlds within symbolic undercurrents and a quiet map guiding my waking self. The universe itself led me here: on a journey through the cosmos of my own mind, where the most profound expeditions happen in dream-full repose.
